Art Journaling
What is art journaling? There's not really one definition. It’s your book, or journal, or sketchbook, or whatever and it can be whatever you want it to be. You have the freedom to mess up, make ugly pages, be inconsistent, express angst, or smear paint. You can pick it up purposefully, with the intention to create a beautiful spread about your garden, or you can pick it up when you’re depressed and just need to DO something. That’s one of my favorite things -- you don’t have to follow rules. Think of any art rule, and you don’t have to follow it. It is healing for me to work in my art journal. While I work in it, I’m processing, I’m grieving, I’m accepting. Art journaling is a long-recognized practice in creative therapy. It reduces stress, increases serotonin, reduces your heart rate, helps memory, decreases stress response, and more.
